Golf

Golf There are five 18-hole and two 9-hole golf courses set within a 15-mile radius of Aviemore including Boat of Garten designed by James Baird, Newtonmore, Grantown-on-Spey and Kingussie. These courses are suitable for all standards of golfers.

The Badenoch & Strathspey Golf Pass includes the seven golf courses throughout the Region, namely: Abernethy, Boat of Garten, Carrbridge, Craggan, Grantown, Kingussie and Newtonmore.

The pass can be purchased from the Golf Highland Office for a reduced rate of £99.00. This entitles the golfer to 18 holes on each course over any fortnightly period (subject to available tee times). Tel: +44 (0) 1847 889373

Walking

Walking There are a number of specifically built walks on lower ground, which require little or no experience. Longer routes and routes up the mountains require proper equipment, experience and preparation. A trained guide can arrange organised walks. In May there is the Aviemore walking festival. The Speyside Way takes you from Ballindalloch to Aviemore.

Rothiemurchus Estate

Quad bikes, clay shooting, guided walks, craft shops, fishing, horse riding are all available on the Rothiemurchus Estate.

Loch Morlich & Loch Insh

Both of these lochs offer a vast variety of watersports, from canoeing and kayaking to skiing on the dry ski slope at Loch Insh.

Fishing

The River Spey, River Don and the River Dee are three of the finest salmon rivers in Scotland. Natural and stocked lochs and fisheries are also available in the area.

Bikes

Cycles and mountain bikes can be hired locally. There is also the new purpose built Wolftrax Mountain Bike Trails near Laggan.

Snowsports

Snowsports The Cairngorm, the Lecht and Glenshee are all within the National Park. All have qualified instructors and ski schools for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. The Cairngorm is only a 15min drive by car and has great skiing across two valley areas. There is also the funicular railway, which operates every day all year round, which takes you to the top of the Cairngorm Mountain where the highest restaurant in the UK is situated.

Steam Train

Steam Train The steam train runs from Aviemore, via Boat of Garten and Broomhill to Grantown-on-Spey through spectacular scenery. Broomhill is better known as Glenbogle, home to the TV drama series Monarch of the Glen.

Whisky Trail

A short drive will bring you into the heart of the Whisky Trail where you will find the Dalwhinnie Distillery, Royal Lochnagar, and Glenlivet together with other famous Speyside distilleries.
